Migrating your site to a new web host

Switching web hosting companies for an existing website is not necessarily as easy as it seems or a prospective hosting company would like you to believe. There are issues that you may or may not be aware of that have to be taken into consideration before you make a decision.

Many of our clients change web hosts for several reasons which include excessive downtime, inadequate access to tools and programs, poor support, outgrowing existing hosting features and many other reasons.

Once you have found the right hosting company you now need to go through the process of putting together a checklist to begin migrating your site. This is an important first step you must take to avoid unnecessary downtime during and after the transfer.

The steps are as follows:
  1. Backup your website files and database to your local computer.
  2. Purchase a new hosting account.
  3. Login in to the new hosting account and create your email accounts, databases and become familiar with their tools.
  4. Transfer your files and database.
  5. Switch your domain name to the new hosting account.
To avoid being repeating everything that has already been said we have included a link to an excellent article that explains in more detail about each of the steps above.
